 Dr. Linda Henson, APR, retired from Eastern Kentucky University in 1997 as a tenured associate professor in the Department of Mass Communications. She returned to EKU in 2002-2003 to teach a year as a visiting associate professor. Dr. Henson primarily taught courses in the public relations major over her fifteen years at EKU (1983-1997, 2002-2003). She also taught courses in mass communications, communications research, photojournalism, advertising, and broadcasting. Dr. Henson advised the Public Relations Student Society of America for several years and served as adviser to undeclared majors as well public relations and other communications majors. She was named Faculty Emeritus in 1998.
In 1992, Dr. Henson received her Ph.D. in Communications from the University of Kentucky. She was accredited in public relations by the Public Relations Society of America, New York City, in 1987. Henson also received master’s degrees in Communications in 1976 and in educational psychology in 1970 from UK. She also earned her bachelor’s degree in education, with a major in biology, from UK. In 1997, Henson was awarded a Master of Divinity degree from Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore KY.
Prior to teaching at Eastern Kentucky University, Henson’s background included work as: a public relations consultant for clients in central Kentucky and Arlington TX; an instructor at a liberal arts college; a free-lance writer, photographer and videographer; a broadcast television producer, reporter, and cinematographer at a Lexington KY television station; and a school counselor in Lexington.
After retirement from Eastern, Dr. Henson continued to work part-time, with some full-time work, in a variety of settings, including: public relations consulting, editing, writing and research with Henson Communications and PR in Lexington; teaching at EKU and a local liberal arts college; working in church ministries in Central Kentucky and Western Pennsylvania; teaching and counseling part-time in local public schools; and volunteering.
Dr. Henson currently lives in Lexington, KY and, in addition to work, she plans to use her spare time continuing her life-long pursuits of learning, writing, teaching, traveling, encouraging and serving. She welcomes communications from former students; send e-mails to: linshenson@juno.com. |
